EQ Prime L3
EQ Prime Level 3 is a replica of the emotional intelligence n-back task used in the PLoS One 2-11 paper Extending Brain-Training to the Affective Domain: Increasing Cognitive and Affective Executive Control through Emotional Working Memory Training and the Journal of Neuroscience 2013 paper ‘Training the Emotional Brain: Improving Affective Control through Emotional Working Memory Training‘. This training game has resulted in:
1. Improved emotional control
2. greater activity in the ‘frontoparietal demand network’ along with other brain regions involved in emotional control such as the anterior cingulate cortex
This game combines the two single mode games of EQ Prime Level 1, starting with an ‘n-back’ = 1. You have to keep track of not just the changing locations of the faces, but also the spoken words – simultaneously! At the same time as faces appear in different locations, you hear different words. You must press the ‘F’ key if there is a visual match at the n-back level you are on, and the ‘L’ key if there is a word match. If there is a match for both at the same time, you must press both the ‘F’ key and the ‘L’ key together. When you are proficient at n=1, then you progress to a 2-back game. In the 2-back example below there are 2 visual matches and 2 word matches.
If you get good enough on both the visual and verbal components of the task, the memory ‘n-back’ gap for the next Block increases 1 n-back level. If you are not sufficiently accurate in either visual or verbal, the gap decreases 1 n-back level. Otherwise the n-back level stays the same. After each training Session a window will appear giving you graphical feedback on how well you have done, as described above.
Increase your n-back level!
Your aim as always is to increase your n-back level – a measure of your working memory capacity. The n-back gap could increase all the way to a 5-back or beyond as the emotional working memory training takes effect.
